January Yellow :: Lemon Infused Cleaning Spray

I think I clean our kitchen counters ten times a day.  Some days a lot more than that.  Because I clean them so often, I don't feel like I need to spray chemicals and bleach all over the place - just something that can kill the bacteria and wipe up the mountain of crumbs that seems to appear out of nowhere.

After reading several versions of other house cleaners - including straight vinegar, which smells vile - I came up with this perfect cleaner.  There are a lot of reasons why I think this is a great cleaner, but here are the highlights ::

1. Vinegar kills most bacteria, germs and mold
2. Vodka is effective on mold, mildew, and cleaning up stubborn sticky things
3. Lemon oil from the peel adds a hint of lemony freshness without adding a sickening odor
4. Castile soap is crazy cheap

So spray to your little heart's content and feel good about the lack of chemicals and over powering scents.  Get excited for basic clean surfaces and buckets of affordable cleaner.

1 cup vodka
2 cups white vinegar
4 cups water
1 tablespoon castile soap
the peel of one lemon

Peel the lemon into the vinegar and let it sit overnight – or longer.  Strain into a clean spray bottle and add remaining ingredients.  Shake gently.  Spray and clean counters, tabletops, and sealed floors.
