a fun & funky {family} Palm Springs eating guide
Ah, Palm Springs. Who doesn't love Palm Springs? With it's proximity to Seattle, I think everyone I know spends at least a little time in the desert.
My in-law's are in Palm Springs for the winter so we get to spend a healthy amount of time hanging out in the land of margaritas and golf courses. Usually we are in the desert with the children, which means I am well versed in the art of entertaining myself and the children at the same time. Most of my adventures are centered around what I'm going to eat. These are my top picks.
Anyone who doesn't live in California makes a pilgrimage to In-and-Out whenever we are in the area. Because we aren't used to ordering at the infamous burger joint, it becomes a trick to figure out how to get all of the "extras" - the secret I've learned is to order "Animal Style."
Really, anywhere at the Parker Palm Springs is a dream. Breakfast food is my all-time favorite, so Norma's is my go-to. They even bring you a tiny smoothie to start the day. I almost always order the Huevos Rancheros. They are served with a little quesadilla, black beans, and delicious guacamole. I'm starving right now just thinking of them. If you're a fan of mushrooms - the Eggs Benedict served on artichoke hearts instead of bread is EPIC. Don't skip the bloody mary either.
Speaking of bloody mary's and brunch (best meal ever). Try Wilma & Frieda in Palm Desert. It's like funky comfort food, but with an interesting twist - like a Churro Waffle. Rumor has it they are opening one in Palm Springs soon so we don't have to drive all the way out to Palm Desert. Also, order the bloody mary here.
Las Casuelas is possibly the most classic Mexican restaurant on the strip. It's straight up traditional Mexican food. And the nachos are ridiculously good. Order the nachos. Make a reservation for the patio after 6pm and you can dance to live music while you sip a margarita and eat nachos. Did I mention the nachos?
When the kids are exhausted and you're ready to have a little drive, Shield's Date Farm is perfect. We usually save it for day 3 or 4 when we know they need a break from the sun, and a little quiet time driving. Shield's is in Indio which is about 1/2 hour-40 minutes away depending on where you're staying. The date shakes are worth the drive. Get a large shake and a package of date sugar - trust me.
