Cocktailing | Classic Daiquiri
Daiquiris are now all frilly and sweet.
But the original is much more of a treat.
Invented in Cuba in 1898 when an American throwing a party ran out of gin.
Cuban rum was swapped into the punch and made it a win!
The drink turned up at the Army Navy Club in DC
where it became a favorite of Hemingway and Kennedy.
Overtime, the drink got blended and topped with frills
but I recommend the traditional, shaken and chilled.
Classic Daiquiri
1 ounce run
1/2 ounce simple syrup
3/4 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigweously. Strain into a glass and garnish with lime wedges.
Cocktailing | Painkiller Cocktail
An amazing drink from the Soggy Dollar Bar. A hair of the dog cocktail from a swim up bar. Tr additionally made with Prusser’s Rum, one sip evokes sounds of a steel drum. Made with juice and coconut cream, it’s like a Pina colada without the sugar extreme. Shake one up and bottom’s up! It’s sunshine and sand, all in a cup.
prusser’s Painkiller
2 1/2 ounces run
4 ounces pineapple juice
2 ounces orange juice
1 ounce coconut cream
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake well over ice until combined. Strain into a glass filled with fresh ice and top with an umbrella, pineapple, lime wedges and anything else you can think of!
Cocktailing | BFRD
The comment from last week’s cocktail fun? “Tell me about your bar full of rum!” So here’s the deal, I love a rum drink. But a good one is not as simple as you think. The best I’ve ever had is a BFRD. It’s three kinds of rum, pineapple juice and orgeat. A splash of orange liquor and a squeeze of lime, you’ll feel like you’re in Hawaii in no time. Aloha Friday and have a great weekend. I’ll see you back here next week my friend.
BFRD
Makes two drinks
one ounce white rum
one ounce gold rum
one once dark rum
half ounce orange liqour
half ounce orgeat
one ounce pineapple juice
lime wedge
cherry
In a cocktail shaker full of ice, combine all ingredients. Shake well and pour into a glass - everything! Even the ice. Garnish with a lime wedge and a cherry. Enjoy.
Cocktailing | March Madness Punch
Does anyone else have a child obsessed with their bracket right now? Mine is only obsessed with making sure Gonzaga gets to the end because that’s his team to win. Also making sure he beats his friends since they are all competing. He’s hilarious.
When we still had the Sonics in Seattle, I followed a ton of basketball. I haven’t really watched since then, but college ball this year has been a blast! Who are you rooting for? Who’s your team?
Cocktailing | Le Thanksgiving Tail
I can’t be the only one who plans their menu around the cocktail? This one is unexpected because its a rum based cocktail and everyone is expecting something bourbon-y or whiskey-y. Mix it up with this sweet, spicy, and boozy cocktail!
weeknight cocktail | double watermelon daiquiri
HAPPY SUMMER! Is it summer where you are? Seattle is full on starting summer. The weather has creeped up into the 80's (!!) and the sun is out. It's glorious. My tan from Palm Springs hasn't faded so I'm really relishing this weather. Which means we need a cocktail.
This cocktail is great for a party because you can make it boozy, new-mom-friendly, or in a punch bowl so you don't have to serve anyone. I highly recommend having these made ahead of time so when your ladies arrive, you can hand them a cocktail immediately and they can get into the mood.
DOUBLE WATERMELON DAIQUIRI
STEP 1
Blend watermelon, lime juice, and rum (if you're using it) in a blender until fully combined and the watermelon is liquified.
STEP 2
Fill cups half way with watermelon puree or pour all of it in a punch bowl. Top with Watermelon DRY Sparkling.
STEP 3
Serve with lime wedges
1/2 watermelon, pureed (4 cups watermelon juice)
2 cups light rum
1/2 cup lime juice + wedges
2 cups Watermelon DRY Sparkling
