Ali Hedin | Mandarin Mule for Chinese New Year

Yesterday I shared a really really fast Chinese Chicken Wrap recipe that's super delicious.  You'll love it.  You'll love it even better with a quirky little cocktail inspired by Chinese New Year.

Clearly, this is really un-authentic.  But that's not what I'm going for.  I like to celebrate.  I like to have a reason to celebrate and I think Chinese New Year is an awesome reason to celebrate.  Who doesn't love good Chinese food and a cocktail?

Inspired by the sweet and spicy flavors in Chinese cuisine, I added a little Mandarin vodka to a regular Moscow Mule transforming it to a little something that everyone will love!

weeknight cocktail | shot through the heart
Ali Hedin | Anti-Valentine Cocktail

All month Jordan of Oh Happy Day has been posting the most hilarious "Anti-Valentine" Valentine ideas.  Every time I'm scrolling through them I find myself giggling at her hilarious un-valentine sentiments, like "I need space" or "The magic is gone."

So when I started making one of my favorite cocktails - a Negroni - into something kind of fun for Valentines day, I realized the bitterness of the aperol lent itself perfectly to an anti-valentine cocktail!

Ali Hedin | Watermelon Fizz for Galentine's Day

This year I wanted to host a Galentine's Day for my best gal pals.  Unfortunately, we're dealing with one who is just coming out of the ER, two that have been sick, and two that can't stop traveling for work.  It looks like it's turning into a post-Valentine celebration.

No matter when we get together, these fizzy watermelon cocktails will go down easy.

Ali Hedin | Football Punch

I think a punch is the coolest.  I love pouring big buckets of booze into a cute punch bowl and serving it up.  I also love that it's a one and done kind of thing.  Make a big batch and you won't have to deal with it again for a while.  What better time to not be tethered to the bar than Super Bowl?

I made this one 'not too strong' so you can continue  to have cocktails for the four hours of football without being totally on your lips by the award ceremony.  If you want to pop it up a notch, add a little vodka!

Tropical Skinny Margarita | Ali Hedin

Usually I would say "This time of year I'm trying to eat healthier" but the reality is, I should probably cut out extra calories on the regular.  Alcohol is a pretty good place to start.  Do you know how many calories are in a margarita?!? It's like a zillion.  I wondered if I could combine tequila + a little juice + coconut water to make a cocktail that's not too heavy in the calories but is actually delicious.

Nailed it.

It turns out this is fantastic.  Because it isn't filled with the margarita syrup stuff, it actually needs less salt on the rim than usual.  But it's so much more fun with  a salted rim.

Weeknight Party Girl :: Eggnog Affogato

If you like an Eggnog Latte, I have stumbled upon the ULTIMATE Eggnog Latte.  Scoop one or two scoops of eggnog ice cream in a coffee mug.  Top with hot espresso.  It's an Eggnog Affogato and your new favorite coffee.  Especially if you're feeling a little sluggish in the morning from all of the festivities at night.  Like say, tonight?  And tomorrow?

Charm Hour :: Spiced Pineapple Punch

Large Pineapple Jar from Waiting on Martha

I can't express to you how vital a good punch recipe is.  A good punch recipe gets you out of mixing individual cocktails, it looks quite swanky, and it's a really simple way to add a festive flair to even the most mundane event.  This time of year, nothing seems mundane - a punch makes your party fancy without hardly even trying.  Just pour the ingredients together and serve.

Voila!
