Charm Hour :: Blackberry Martini

What a week.  My children had the week off from school which meant I was the full time entertainment committee.  We went to Whidbey, we hosted playdates, we did art projects and now we are ready for them to go back to school.  Soon.

Until then, let's sip cocktails and catch up on the fun things some of my friends did this week

:: Are you sending invitations out for a Oscar Party?

Kelly at Studio DIY has a printable Oscar Ballot for you.

::  Sharon put together an amazing playlist for our party at Alt Summit.

Find out how here.

::

S'mores cupcakes

!!  My brilliant friend Melissa {otherwise known as Lulu the Baker} made these.

::  Did you see

Amy's red tulle skirt

?  I loved it when I saw it in person and I have been pinning tulle skirts like a maniac.  I think it's time for my own.

See you Monday!

Charm Hour :: Shirley Temple

I'm not sure why it struck me as so surprising that Shirley Temple passed away this week.  But it did. I felt profoundly affected by her passing.  Maybe it's because she has always been such an iconic figure, or maybe it's because Pearl has recently discovered Shirley Temple movies.

In honor of this day, that is all about love and caring, and beauty - nothing seems more appropriate than the drink named for the darling little girl who brought joy in a dark time and continues to inspire little girls.

I haven't told Pearl that Shirley Temple has died.  It seems unnecessary.  Pearl believes that fairies live in the woods, that princesses live in castles and fly on carpets, and that Shirley Temple is a tiny little girl who tap dances.  I believe that Shirley Temple deserves to live amongst the fairies and the princesses because that's the kind of magic she carries.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Cocktails with Hank & Hunt {and Bing Smart Search}

Last month my friend Jenny came over to shoot her super cool tissue paper fringe and asked me to create a cocktail to go along with it.  I'm completely obsessed with anything cranberry this time of year, so a cranberry cocktail seemed like a good idea.  Plus, it's a great color with her fringe.

I'm also a little obsessed with making a punch.  It's usually super simple to create and then your guests can help themselves - which means you aren't having to play bartender all night.  I used

Bing Smart Search

and P

interest to brainstorm a punch that was a great color, great tasting, and would be easy to serve a crowd.

1 cup fresh cranberries

3/4 cup pomegranate juice

1/2 cup sugar

4 cups bianco vermouth

2 cups Aperol

2 cups soda water

In a saucepan, combine cranberries, pomegranate juice, and sugar.  Simmer over medium heat until berries begin to pop.  Let cool.

Pour vermouth, Aperol, and soda water into a punch bowl.  Stir in cranberry mixture.

Garnish with sliced oranges and fresh cranberries.

This is my actual search for 'cranberry cocktail' - SO MANY PICTURES!

Charm Hour :: Vampire's Raspberry Bite

As I dug through every Halloween cocktail, I realized they all looked gross.  They all were attempting to create something either black, orange or both.  Yuck.  Then I made jam over the weekend and realized that the drips from berry juice look pretty gruesome.  What if I just created a drippy glass and put a cocktail in that packed a berry punch that you may not be expecting from a clear drink.  A little surprise for everyone!  Cheers!
